CARDIOTHORACIC SURGERY

QUOTE

“My mission in life is not merely to survive, but to thrive; and to do so with some passion, some compassion, some humor, and some style.” - Maya Angelou

Mission Statement

My mission this year in the Independent Study Mentorship program is to become a better public speaker, obtain knowledge on Cardiothoracic surgery, and also to gain insight about the professional world.  In the beginning, I became interested in the field of Cardiothoracic surgery because of several personal experiences, but after exploring more about the field I became motivated to study the functions of the circulatory system and make it my profession.Through my journey in ISM, I also hope to discover the skills it takes to become a Cardiothoracic surgeon. By discovering the skills I must possess to become a Cardiothoracic surgeon I will be able to make a knowledgeable decision about pursuing the career for my life. This will require hard work and perseverance due to the high demanding nature of the profession; however, with the guidance of a mentor and hands-on experience, I will solidify my passions this year and also hope to inspire other students along the way to believe in themselves, and take opportunities that will bring them closer to their future goals.

ISM 2018 BUISNESS SYMPOSIUM

At the business symposium this year, at Independence High School, we spoke and interacted with professionals in different fields. We also had the opportunity to be interviewed by those professionals and receive constructive criticism. Through this experience, I understood that I need to lessen my use of the word "like" and keep my answers to a minimum. I am working on improving my professional and communicational skills.
